[DRAMA] "Love Alarm" Drama Promotion at NETFLIX "See What's Next: Asia" 2018

Actress Kim So Hyun and Director Lee Na Jung attended Netflix event, “See What’s Next: Asia”, at Marina Sand Bays, Singapore to introduce and promote Netflix Original Series ‘Love Alarm’. The event was held on November 8th, 2018 at 8:00 p.m. SGT.

QUESTION and ANSWER

Attractive point (of the drama).
Director Lee Na Jung: "I think the attractive point of the drama is “Love Alarm” application. The feeling of love is also one’s main character. We thought we would be happy forever when we found that feeling in our life, but there will be the sad moment, and we can also discover the bad side (of the others) that we don't want to see. We can also experience the happiest feeling in the world. I was fascinated by an idea that we could make a drama with the rich contents in life only based on the feeling when we like someone. Not just a simple romance drama."

Attractive side of the character

Kim So Hyun: "In the original work (webtoon), the story is about a phone application called ‘Jo-Alarm’. We don’t express our feeling by words but we confess it through the app, so it feels fresh/new and surprising. So I thought, “how could the writer think about this idea?”. I think it’s something new, unique/ unusual, and sad at the same time. It’s surprising and it feels like we cut the communication with the others because the relationship between people isn't expressed by looking in the eye, but through the app. I could see such kind of disadvantage while I was thinking, “Ah, so you can express the way you like it.” The character (Kim Jo Jo) is lovely and pitiful. She is someone who feels confused when the first time she has a feeling for someone, but she can express it confidently."

The difficulty you faced while you were preparing the character

Kim So Hyun:  "I want to vividly express the nervous moment when someone feels the love for the first time. I didn’t want to fake it. I want the character to be as real as possible. I tried my best to act and think as the character is talking and she is a living person."

What’s the “Jo-Alarm” app?
Director Kim Na Jung: “It’s only a fictional application, but I think it can be the way to express the feeling of the first time we find love. The application is fictional but the character’s love is real and passionate. The freshness of youth is expressed as it is (just like in reality)"

Will there be any negative side?
Kim So Hyun: "There will be a sudden dating violence problem just because of love, and the problem of someone who’s trying to commit suicide with another people on the second half of the drama. The drama will show various layers of emotion."

How do you feel about the upcoming release?
Kim So Hyun:  "The drama will be released in 190 countries, and I’m curious how people will accept it. Maybe it’s a little bit unconventional for a Korean drama. It’s an honor to introduce this drama through a good platform like Netflix."
